Many of us have worked remotely and online in situations of emergency, attempting to contribute where possible with information, knowledge and resources to alleviate extreme human conditions.
Information and communication are powerful tools, if we know who needs what where, we can direct personal and collective energies where they are needed.
People out there are doing a good job, yet sistemic inefficiencies (nothing personal) cause immense waste and dispersion of relief efforts. We hear a lot of frustration from our co-workers in the field, and we believe that there must be a better ways of doing things.
In information technology we trust, nowadays we can use freely available ICT and existing logistic resources coupled with volunteered human knowledge, to improve the flow of information and allocate international efforts more efficiently.
We also believe in microeconomic dimension of aid - Small Is Beautiful concept - where person with surplus can help person with deficit, with minimal effort and great mutual benefit - provided we can create a favourable environment and a supporting facility.
To p2pAid it is important to inhibit speculation and systemic inefficiencies, by creating a transparent mechanism to support information flow.
We know we are up against a horrible 'beast', a system of corruption supported by those who make their fortunes thanks to speculation and systemic inefficiencies, and that thrives on lack of information and transparency.
One of our long term goals is to contribute to promote even in remote areas the 'information culture' which will enable growing numbers of individuals connected to the internet to use new technologies to improve their quality of life and increase knowledge communication and exchange.
So we are building a simple functionality, that will help people help other people by contributing whatever they can to a 'virtual supply chain' for emergency and relief.
There is a lot more to say. Technology is changing the way we operate, the way we live and the way we think.
We believe there is huge scope for new ideas in all areas.
